Annual general meeting of the FZS support association
On 15 May, the annual general meeting of the support association of the Extrusion Research Centre took place at the FZS.
The members of the Friends of the Extrusion Research Centre, which has been in existence for almost 40 years, met on 15 May 2025 for their annual general meeting. In addition to presenting the financial report and approving the actions of the board, the director of the FZS, Dr Sören Müller, reported on current and planned projects as well as ongoing and completed student theses. After lunch, which traditionally consisted of potato salad, sausages, meatballs and red fruit jelly for dessert, Ms Elif Altunay presented the results of her research project ‘High-temperature-resistant bonding wires and chip metallisation for power electronic modules made of AlSc alloys’.
New research project starting on 1 January 2024
On 1 January 2024, we will begin work on a new research project.
The project, entitled ‘High-temperature-resistant bonding wires and chip metallisation for power electronic modules made of AlSc alloys’, is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as part of the Industrial Collective Research (IGF) programme and is being carried out in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration. In order to improve the durability of wire bond connections on the chip surface, wire materials made of aluminium-scandium alloys have been identified as a promising material in recent years, as they can be processed in the same way as the current standard aluminium wire, but their crack-resistant properties enable a significantly longer service life. However, in order to bring these findings to market, this project is researching the processes and mechanisms for the mass production of Al-Sc wires and for equally durable chip metallisation, which is currently the weak point.
